What to Do with Leftover Halloween Candy: Creative Ideas for Enjoying Your Treats

As I write this, my kids are due home from school any minute (thank you carpool!) and I will be cramming them in jackets with Halloween costumes over them so we are warm as we walk the neighborhood for 2 hours collecting WAY more candy than I want them to eat! I feel like many moms are like me, finding yourself with an overflowing bowl of leftover sweets that you don't really want to eat and you don't want your kids to eat either. Instead of letting those treats get wasted, why not get creative? Here are some fun and delicious ways to make the most of your leftover Halloween candy!

1. Bake with It

One of the easiest ways to use up leftover candy is to incorporate it into your baking. Here are some ideas:

  • Candy Bar Cookies: Chop up your favorite candy bars and mix them into cookie dough for a delicious twist on classic cookies. Here is our favorite GF cookie mix! CLICK HERE It's great because it's a "blank slate" mix and you can add anything in! Snickers are a must try.
  • Brownies with a Twist: Fold in crushed candy into brownie batter for a unique flavor boost. These brownies are unbelievable, no one knows they are GF until I tell them. CLICK HERE
  • Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats: Make your traditional Rice Krispie treats and add in candy corn for a festive touch.

2. DIY Trail Mix

Transform your candy into a fun and personalized trail mix. Combine your leftover candies with nuts, dried fruits, and pretzels. This creates a sweet and salty snack perfect for on-the-go munching or movie nights at home. We packed our pockets with a similar trail mix on our annual hike last week to Parnell Tower.

3. Host a Candy Tasting Party

Gather friends or family for a fun candy tasting party! Set up a candy buffet and invite everyone to bring their leftover treats. You can have contests for the best candy pairings, funniest tasting notes, or even a themed costume to match the candy. We were a little bit a part of such an event in California (I say a little bit because we had a one year old, so we didn't exactly Trick-or-Treat to have enough candy to participate fully!) One aspect of the party was to swap with friends so everyone leaves with candy they will actually eat!

4. Gingerbread Houses

Christmas is right around the corner and some candy collected on Halloween works really well for the colorful houses we do every December! Just store it away for a month and pull it out for the event! The best cadies for gingerbread houses are licorice, sixlets, and Dots! Here is a gingerbread house cookie cutter kit to make use of all that sugar you don't want to eat, CLICK HERE

5. Freeze for Later

If you’re not ready to use all that candy just yet, consider freezing it! Most candy can be stored in an airtight container and frozen for several months. When the craving strikes, you’ll have a stash of treats ready to go OR fill Christmas stockings with the goodies! Another stocking stuffer you might love..... Wool Jamboree Sling Shot Sets!

6. Share the Love

Don’t forget about those in your community! Many organizations accept candy donations for soldiers or local charities. Check to see if there are any nearby charities that would appreciate your leftover goodies. My local Goodwill takes unopened bags of candy if you have leftovers of what you intended to pass out to Trick-or-Treaters.

And now, the reason I even wrote this post in the first place. The ONLY way I get rid of Halloween candy in my house is........TO GIVE IT TO YOU! Wool Jamboree customers get a candy in every order from November 1st until it runs out. I let my kids pick their favorites and then we pass on the love and appreciation to our customers. Enjoy! Amy
